This class is designed for students who have never learned to dance Salsa nor taken a structured dance class are trying the New York Style Mambo On2 for the first time students from another school students who have been absent for a period of time Students will be introduced to: basic salsa with structured fundamentals leading techniques for men in their partner work & following techniques for women in their partner work Students are required to take a minimum of 4 Basic Salsa classes. Upon completion of this requirement, the student will be evaluated by their Instructor. There is also a mandatory Timing & Musicality workshop which will enable students to feel comfortable in their steps and timing in music so they may progress accordingly.
Ladies Spinning & Styling
Ladies must complete the Beginner & Advanced Beginner Salsa classes in order to attend this class. This workshop teaches spinning and styling techniques. Women will learn to do multiple turns in place, while the men learn to properly guide the turn in order to make the dance fluid. Styling techniques will be added to the Basic Steps. Students at this level must be familiar with timing.
This class is for students who have passed the “Basic” level class Students will be introduced to: Proper leading techniques for men Following and turn techniques for women. Students will be given a syllabus of “Floor shines” and “Turn Patterns,” to familiarize themselves with the basic terminology, steps, and timing to the On2 style. Students will be evaluated on the 8th week cycle by the instructor.
Cha Cha Cha
Students must complete Basic & Beginner Salsa classes in order to participate in this class. The Cha Cha Cha utilizes the same floor shines and turn patterns learned in Salsa, although in different timing. This class will teach basic Cha Cha Cha steps and partner work over an 8 week cycle to enable students to be more fluid in their dance.
Advanced Beginner Salsa
This class is for students who have passed the “Beginner” Level Class Students will be introduced to: Advanced steps and turn patterns which are based upon leading and following techniques learned from Beginner. Students will be given a syllabus of “Floor Shines” and “Turn Patterns,” to familiarize themselves with advance steps, terminology, and timing to the On2 style. Students will be evaluated on the 8th week of the cycle by the instructor.
Pre-Intermediate & Intermediate
This class is for students who have completed all the Beginner and Beginner Advance cycles. Students will be introduced to: Advanced steps and turn patterns. Shines and Partner work will be broken down into 2 classes of 1 ½ hours each & Men and women will apply learned multiple turns and syncopated steps. Students at this level have mastered their timing and musicality.
Instructor’s choice. Dance if you can hang.
Timing and Musicality Workshop
This workshop is a requirement for all our students from Beginner to our Intermediate level. It is designed to help students understand the meaning of tempo in music. The understanding of tempo will enable and ensure the student to know how fast or how slow he/she must dance. This class requires more knowledge then dance! Please bring a memo pad & pen/pencil.
This workshop is for Male/Female students to learn basic leading techniques, execute turns properly with timing, hand gestures, and hand signals during partner work. Students will revisit Beginner and Advanced Beginner Level turn patterns. Students must be at an Advanced Beginner Level class to participate in this workshop.
